LOCATION: FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES


DUTIES: Assist individuals with developmental disabilities with getting involved with existing inclusive community activities. Provides support and linkage to recreational events. Recruits volunteers as needed for program.


QUALIFICATIONS:
High School or equivalent. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license and follow agency Motor Vehicle Guidelines. Good communication & organizational skills. Ability to work independently and maintain necessary records. Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 lbs.

STARTING RATE: Grade 5/1 DC - $8.52/hr.

2010 Grant Review

Do you know what The Arc of Orleans County has been able to accomplish with grant funding received in 2010?

At Camp Rainbow…
1. Funding was procured from several area organizations and foundations for the pool renovation to be completed in 2011. Funders for the renovation are The Orleans County Foundation, The Lyndonville Area Foundation, the Child Welfare Association, the Medina Area Association of Churches, the Medina United Methodist Church, and The Rochester Rams.

2. We were able to purchase program supplies and recreational equipment with funding from J.M. McDonald Foundation.

At Rainbow Preschool…
1. We purchased books and accessories for literacy evenings at the Batavia Site with funding provided by the Target Foundation.

2. Grant funds from the Kenlou Foundation went towards the purchase of six computers and monitors as well as a speech assessment tool.

3. Walmart provided funding for various program supplies.

4. The AT&T Foundation funded supplies for a new pilot program—Second Step. The funding will also provide for auditory equipment as well as many other program supplies.

At Family Services—Recreation Program…
1. The NYSARC Trust and The Medina Sandstone Trust provided funding for
special outings for the Adult Recreation Group.

The Arc Receives First Grant of 2011


The Arc received a grant of $2,500 from the Kelly For Kids Foundation on January 10, 2011 at a special luncheon at Ilio DiPaolo's Restaurant. This grant will be used to assist in the purchase of some much needed equipment for our Batavia Rainbow Preschool.

Supervisory experience preferred. Must be physically able to walk up and down stairs, shovel snow and assist in wheelchair/bathing transfer. Valid NYS driver’s license is required and meet agency Motor Vehicle Guidelines. Must be independent, organized, creative, insightful, able to take proactive steps to solve problems and be willing to work required hours.

Collen Elam Receives the 2010 Edward S. Woods, Sr. Direct Care Worker of the Year Award

Colleen Elam, Administrative Assistant for Community Living and Supported Employment, was awarded the Direct Care Worker of the Year Award for 2010. Even though Colleen is technically an Administrative Assistant, she does direct care duties on an almost daily basis. Colleen assists with VESID Orientation and provides tremendous help to the individuals we serve in obtaining their medical documentation so they can start the process of getting needed services. Colleen also works at the community residences if they are short staffed as well as many other things within the Supported Employment and Community Living Departments. Colleen is always available to help her colleagues as well as the individuals we serve. Colleen is truly deserving of this prestigious award.

Carol Fox Named The Arc's 2010 Employee of the Year

Carol Fox, Human Resources Manager, was honored as The Arc's 2010 Employee of the Year at The Agency's Holiday Open House held on December 17th. Carol has been employed by The Arc for twenty-two years and has seen many changes to the Agency as it has grown over the years—in programs, individuals served, and especially the number of staff. This is a tremendous responsibility for Carol (and her staff) but she handles it in a caring, professional manner. She leads by example and is always available to assist anyone who needs her help. Carol is truly deserving of this prestigious award.
