Genesee ARC Visits Nutrition Program
The Arc of Orleans County's Nutrition Program (Nutri-Fair/Meals on Wheels) played host to visitors from Genesee ARC on Friday, February 24th. Marketing/Production Manager Paul Saskowski, Culinary Arts Specialist Chuck Gugel, and Erik Goodrich got a full tour of the Albion congregate site from Nutrition Program Manager David Spaker, Admin. Assistant/Meals on Wheels Coordinatior Vicki Havholm, Head Cook Melissa Sullivan, and the staff.
Spaker and Havholm shared the day-to-day operations of the Meals on Wheels program including preparation and cooking, meal packaging, and delivery of routes. They also shared information on food vendors, frozen meals, machinery and supplies, and staffing.
The Arc of Orleans currently has four congregate sites in Albion, Medina, Lyndonville, and Kendall, and delivers meals to seniors throughout Orleans County five days a week. The Meals on Wheels drivers not only deliver delicious food, but often are the only contact some seniors have with another person during their day.
If you have a loved one in Orleans County that you think would benefit from the Meals on Wheels program, please contact Vicki Havholm, Meals on Wheels Coordinatior at 585-589-5424. The Arc's Nutrition Program is run in partnership with Orleans County's Office for the Aging.
Genesee ARC will be bidding on the contract for Meals on Wheels home delivery and seven congregate sites by the end of March. The Arc of Orleans wishes them well in this new endeavor.

Arc Staff Gives Back
(Dawn Reed)
Dawn hoped to sell 75 bracelets for $1.00 each to fellow employees. 215 have been sold throughout the month of February. All proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association on behalf of The Arc of Orleans County staff in memory of Dawn’s mother Sandra Green.
Dawn and her niece Sterling truly exemplify
what giving back is all about!
(Sterling Green, Volunteer at Rainbow Preschool)
Dawn Reed, Rainbow Preschool Teacher Assistant, at The Arc of Orleans County coordinated an Agency-wide sale of hand knitted bracelets for “National Wear Red Day” held on Friday, February 3, 2012. This observance day helps to provide awareness that heart disease is the #1 killer of women and to continue to urge women to protect their hearts. Dawn has a special place in her heart for this cause as sadly she lost her mother to heart disease. Her mother, Sandra Green, had bypass surgery in 2000 and passed away in May of 2011.
Dawn worked on the bracelets with her niece Sterling Green. Her niece had knitted over 20 bracelets the night before her grandmother’s funeral for family members to wear at the service. Dawn loved this and thought making and selling red bracelets would be a great way to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association during February which is Heart Month.
