Meals On Wheels Program

In Need of Volunteer Drivers

 

Are you interested in helping the seniors in Orleans County?  Do you have some extra time on your hands?  We have the perfect opportunity for you!
 
The Arc of Orleans County’s Nutrition Program —Nutri-Fair/Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteer drivers for several routes in Orleans County. Volunteers begin their shift at 10:30 am.  The current routes take 1-2.5 hours to complete.  You can volunteer Monday through Friday, once a week, or monthly—it’s your choice.  Perhaps you would like to team up with your spouse or a friend and drive a route together!

Volunteers must have their own vehicle, a valid NYS Drivers License, and be able to lift up to 20 lbs.  Volunteer drivers will receive a mileage reimbursement that changes in conjunction with fluctuating gas prices.

This Program is run by The Arc of Orleans County

in partnership with the Office for the Aging.

Rainbow Preschool Children at Play

Several children at Albion Rainbow Preschool were recently enjoying their time in the Socio-Dramatic Play Center.  This room was created in memory of Rachel Miller, a speech therapist at the Preschool for 15 years.

 

The Play Center is a theme based room where the children can interact with their environment in pretend play that simulates real-world situations. Currently the room is set up as a grocery store complete with pretend food, a cash register, and minature grocery carts.  The theme of the room is periodically changed.  It has also been set up as a pizza parlor, space, a farm market, and coming soon "fire fighting".

Playing is not only fun, it helps with cognitive skill development, promotes social and emotional skills, increases speech and language skills, and helps the children to practice fine and gross motor skills.

These beautiful candles and accessories are sure to please everyone!  Purchase something for yourself or as a gift for someone else...or both!!     Here's how you can purchase the items:    Check out the items available at Yankee Candle Fundraising.com and select what items you'd like to purchase.     Next, contact The Arc's Community Relations Department at 585-589-5516 ext. 227 to place your order.  We must receive payment no later than Monday, November 16th for your order to be submitted to Yankee Candle.  You can pay by check (payable to The Arc of Orleans County), cash, or credit card. Arc Calendar Sale The 2016 Calendar sale has begun! The Arc of Orleans County is asking for your support by purchasing one (or more) of our annual calendars. Proceeds from the calendars fund programs and services for the men, women, and children that we serve. Here's how the Calendar works - Purchase one of The Arc's Calendars for just $20.00. The calendar is good for the entire 2016 year - you'll have 365 chances to win! ♦ 1,000 calendars are available, numbered from 000 through 999. Choose your favorite 3-way number or have one chosen for you at random by us. ♦ Ticket stubs on the back of the calendar must be completed completely and returned with paymentbefore the calendar is in effect for the year. The Arc's Community Relations Committee will record all information received and keep track of the winning calendar holders. ♦ Winning amounts are always at least $25.00, with the highest payout at $250.00. Winners for a given month will be issued a check by the 15th day of the following month. Checks will be mailed to the winners. Members of the "Make a Difference Day" Committee at Orleans Correctional Facility have been supporting The Arc's Rainbow Preschool and Meals on Wheels Program (The Arc of Orleans County's Nutrition Program) for many years and this year was no exception. The group stopped by Rainbow Preschool and the Nutrition Program on Friday, October 9th, to present their donations.

We thank the Orleans Correctional Facility's "Make A Difference Committee" for their generosity and support of Rainbow Preschool and Meals on Wheels.  You truly are making a difference!
