The Arc's 2011 Grant Review
At Camp Rainbow…
1. ABATE Orleans County Chapter raised money for a shed and gate at the pool area.
At Rainbow Preschool…
1. The DanPaul Foundation provided grant funding to purchase equipment and supplies as well as to assist with staff training costs.
2. The Arc received grant funding from the Kenlou Foundation to purchase classroom amplification systems, assessment tools and supplies.
3. The Children’s Guild Foundation provided grant funding through the Mabel Louise Burns Education Fund for equipment and supplies related to health and safety and assistive technologies.
4. The Kelly For Kids Foundation in conjunction with Terry Hills provided funding for equipment and supplies at our Batavia Preschool site.
5. Wal-mart funding allowed the purchase of supplies for our visually impaired students.
At Family Support Services & Recreation Program…
1. The Agency received grant funding from the AT&T Foundation to assist with the transition of young adults from school to adulthood.
2. The Sandstone Trust of Medina provided grant funding for an Amtrak trip to Syracuse.
At Nutri-Fair/Meals on Wheels…

Hayden Pond Named November Student of the Month at Rainbow Preschool
Hayden Pond was named the November 2011 Rainbow Preschool Student of the Month. Hayden received this award because he made great progress on his curriculum at home and at school in the month of November.
Hayden's family had undergone changes and he continued to work hard and was ready with a hug when others needed it. Hayden also worked diligently on using his Dynavox speech device to communicate with his family and therapists. For his progress, good attitude and helping his family, Hayden is very deserving of November's Student of the Month.
The Arc of Orleans County and Rainbow Preschool would like to congratulate Hayden on a job well done!

Demonstrates skills equivalent to a high school diploma. Ability to deal with people at all organizational levels, good administrative, problem solving, training and oral & written communication skills required. Ability to independently supervise a group of adults with disabilities cleaning various businesses. Capable of completing SCIP, CPR & other required training. Willing to work weekends, holidays & evenings. Needs a valid NYS driving license.
STARTING RATE: Grade 5DC - $8.52/hr.

Direct Support Professional of the Year is Patricia Joy
The Arc of Orleans County is proud to announce the winner of the Edward S. Woods, Sr. Direct Support Professional of the Year Award. Patricia Joy has been employed by The Arc for eleven years and has been the Enclave Supervisor at Freeze-Dry Foods in Albion since June 2009. Pat oversees seven individuals and is responsible for completing producation paperwork, doing quality control on products, and ensuring production demands are met. Pat does not sit behind a desk all day but can be seen working hands-on with her crew.
Pat's encouragement and dedication to her crew has helped them not only in their professional goals, but their personal goals as well. One of her crew has recently become independent, moving into her own apartment. In addition, three crew members attended driving school and obtained their drivers' licenses.
Pat consistently goes above and beyond and, due to her hard work and the faith she has in her team, they have earned the respect of everyone at Freeze-Dry. Thank you, Pat, for all you do for the Arc, Freeze-Dry, and the individuals we serve. Congratulations!

Jen Batt Named Arc's Employee of the Year
The Arc of Orleans County is proud to announce that Jen Batt, Senior Medicaid Service Coordinator (MSC) with Family Support Services, has been named the Agency's Employee of the Year for 2011. Jen displays initiative, decisiveness, drive, and commitment to the people we serve and the Agency.
Jen played a huge role in the implemenation of a new system the Agency began using and has worked to create and develop templates for staff to use when inputting data into the new system. Jen is always there when people turn to her for guidance in managing their way through the system. In addition, Jen is required to review 100% of the information for accuracy and certify them in order for the Agency staff to begin their work.
In addition, Jen's leadership role during the recent redesign and transitition of Medicaid Service Coordination did not go unnoticed; she has maintained professionalism as the continues to lead her staff through these difficult changes.
Jen is truly deserving of this prestigius award. Congratulations, Jen!

Shane Ritzenthaler Named October Student of the Month
Shane Ritzenthaler was named the October 2011 Rainbow Preschool Student of the Month. Shane received this award because of all his hard work over the years at Rainbow. He is extremely bright and just "wows" his regular preschool teacher with his ability to identify colors, shapes, letters, numbers, and letter sounds. He is meeting new people and new friends. Shane continues to make strides in achieving his goals as he works towards building his skill set for kindergarten next year.
The Arc of Orleans County and Rainbow Preschool would like to congratulate Shane on a job well done!

The Kenlou Foundation Awards Grant For Rainbow Preschool
The Arc of Orleans County has received a generous grant of $5,500 from the Kenlou Foundation. The funding from this grant will be utilized by our Rainbow Preschool program to purchase classroom amplification systems, assessment tools and program supplies.
The AT&T Foundation Awards Grant to Family Support Services
The Arc has received a generous grant of $16,000 from the AT&T Foundation for our Family Support Services program. The funding will be used to assist the individuals served through Family Services that are transitioning into adulthood.
East Hill Foundation's Gift Provides New Van for Agency

Castilone Chrysler Dodge Jeep located in Batavia, NY delivered a 2012 Dodge Caravan to The Arc's Main Office today, Friday, December 2, 2011. This van will be used by our Nutri-Fair/Meals on Wheels program to assist in the delivery of meals. Funding for this van was provided by the East Hill Foundation located in Williamsville, NY.
Kellie Spychalski, Assistant Executive Director, stated, "We are delighted with this extraordinary gift from the East Hill Foundation. Their funding will allow us to serve our seniors in the Meals on Wheels program more efficiently."
