February 2011 Employee of the Month is Tim Ingraham

Tim Ingraham, IT Assistant with The Arc of Orleans County, has
been named the February 2011 Employee of the Month. At the end of February, the Community Living and Supported Employment departments had to temporarily relocate. Tim arrived very early, taking the server down and moving it to the new location. He had the staff computers all set up by the end of the first day with almost everyone up and running. He had copiers ready to go almost immediately and by the second day, two offices that had no computer accessibility or phones were all set up for staff. Tim's proactive nature was the driving force in a smooth transition to the new space. Thank you, Tim, for all your hard work!

Jen Batt Named Employee of the Month for January 2011

The Arc of Orleans County is proud to announce that Jen Batt, Senior MSC with Family Support Services, has been named Employee of the Month for January 2011. Jen has been working very hard for several months to assist with implementing the new Precision Care Data Base with the MSC's. During the month of January, this system was introduced to both the Community Living and the Vocational departments. Many questions arose and Jen took on the leadership role of handing calls, answering questions, and giving needed guidance and direction to staff from these departments. Jen offered her knowledge in a professional and caring manner to the benefit of the entire Agency. Thank you, Jen, and congratulations!

Arc of Orleans Celebrates National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

During the month of March each year, The Arc of Orleans County celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month with its sister chapters across the state. This year the celebration has gone national, with The Arc of the US and organizations throughout the country joining in the celebration.

Individuals with developmental disabilities have goals and dreams like everyone else - they want to make friends, have caring relationships, be independent, find meaningful employment, and make contributions and be involved in their community.

National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is a perfect time to step up and make a difference. You can help by hiring a person with a disability; inviting one to participate in your civic organization or community activity; contacting your legislator and asking him or her to support citizens with disabilities in your community; or giving time or money to an organization supporting people with disabilites.

Very soon The Arc of Orleans County will be beginning its Annual Membership Drive for 2011. Please consider becoming a member and making a gift to help The Arc of Orleans County continue the work of assisting people with disabilities. The membership letter is being mailed in just a few days to everyone on The Arc's mailing list. If you aren't on the mailing list and are interested in becoming a member, please call The Arc's Community Relations Department at 585-589-5516 ext. 227 (Denise Withey).
