Summer Events at Rainbow Preschool

Both Rainbow Preschool sites had all-day, outdoor activities to celebrate summer this year, and allow parents and guardians to come and have a day of fun with their kids.

***

On June 9th, the Albion Preschool held a Carnival day. Senior Nurse Michele Batt and her family generously hosted the event at their farm.

Children enjoyed a variety of activities, from petting the animals, including llamas, goats, and chickens, to a "dinosaur bone dig" and carnival games. There were bean bag tosses, rubber duck fishing, can toss, and a bounce house. Children also enjoyed face painting, a special performance by a magician, and carnival treats such as popcorn, spun sugar, and lollipops.

Students dig for dinosaur bones.

Local Magician James F. Cieslinski* performs magic for the kids, as well as leading some singalongs and encouraging the kids to dance and participate.

On July 22nd, the Batavia Preschool held a Safari Day. ABCD turned their playground area into a Safari, featuring lots of animal activities including a craft tent and a scavenger hunt where the students searched to find different stuffed animals hidden around the play area.

A stuffed elephant waits to be found below a tree.

Students discover a tiger lounging on top of this display.

Albion and Holley Schools Raise Money for Camp Rainbow

Albion 2nd Grade and Holley 3rd Grade participated in our annual Spell-A-Thon this year, together raising almost $4,400.00! The top class at each school received a pizza party, and all the classes participated in a "camp day" where we did activities to give the kids an idea of what a day at camp is like.

We want to send out another big thank you to all the kids, teachers, parents, volunteers, and staff that helped pull off this multi-part fundraiser!

 Albion students play parachute games.

Holley students disperse to go to different areas of camp for activities with their classmates.

Holley students craft with stickers.

Albion teachers, Mrs. Burlison, Mrs. McNair, Mr. Plewinski, Mrs. Beach, Mrs. Mergler, Mrs. Werner, and Mrs. Galbreth, accept a thank-you plaque for participating.

Holley teachers, Mrs. Quaranto, Mrs. Kipp, and Ms. Meyer, accept a thank-you plaque for participating.

New Garden at the Marshall Road Residence

The gardens and patio area at the Arc house on Marshall Road in Medina recently got a makeover. A big project that involved landscaping, planting, and redecorating has made this home just a bit more beautiful and cozy.

House Manager Wendy Eden wrote, "The Marshall Road crew and the guys (that live there) have worked decorously to take a jungle of weeded nonsense and turn it into a beautiful garden, complete with Bistro. This team exemplified "Team Work" as there were many debates, ideas, opinions, and jokes flying, and this was the result. Staff worked hand in hand with the guys, teaching about horticulture, proper use of gardening tools, plant types, care, and maintenance. The guys learned valuable tips, as did the staff. Thank you to all the staff and guys! Very proud to call this home."

Wendy also shared this tip that she learned from the experience: "Use leftover tea and coffee grounds to acidify the soil of acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, gardenias, and even blueberries. A light sprinkling of about one-quarter inch applied once a month will keep the pH of the soil on the acidic side."
