Arc Staff Gives Back

(Dawn Reed)

Dawn Reed, Rainbow Preschool Teacher Assistant, at The Arc of Orleans County coordinated an Agency-wide sale of hand knitted bracelets for “National Wear Red Day” held on Friday, February 3, 2012. This observance day helps to provide awareness that heart disease is the #1 killer of women and to continue to urge women to protect their hearts. Dawn has a special place in her heart for this cause as sadly she lost her mother to heart disease. Her mother, Sandra Green, had bypass surgery in 2000 and passed away in May of 2011.

Dawn worked on the bracelets with her niece Sterling Green. Her niece had knitted over 20 bracelets the night before her grandmother’s funeral for family members to wear at the service. Dawn loved this and thought making and selling red bracelets would be a great way to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association during February which is Heart Month.

Dawn hoped to sell 75 bracelets for $1.00 each to fellow employees. 215 have been sold throughout the month of February. All proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association on behalf of The Arc of Orleans County staff in memory of Dawn’s mother Sandra Green.

Dawn and her niece Sterling truly exemplify
what giving back is all about!
