Dedication Ceremony Held at Camp Rainbow

The Arc of Orleans County held a Dedication Ceremony on Monday, July 16th, at Camp Rainbow, The Arc's summer day camp in Lyndonville.  Kellie Spychalski, Executive Director, welcomed all those in attendance and began with a short history of Camp Rainbow and it's changes over the years.  Next, the new Marcy Pavilion was dedicated in memory of Marcy Mruczek-Basior, daughter of Dr. Art & Donna Mruczek of Medina, and wife of Patrick Basior.  Doc Mruczek shared that Marcy had worked at Camp Rainbow for four summers and loved the time she spent there.  He said her love of Pooh Bear inspired the quote on the inside of the pavilion.  It reads, "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." ~ Christopher Robin to Pooh.  He shared that Marcy was known for her hugs and was the kindest person he ever knew.  With the addition of tables and park benches, this pavilion will be a great place for the kids at Camp to have fun - just as Marcy would want!

After the dedication of the pavilion, the group met at the entrance of the nature trail where the Renaming Ceremony took place.  The trail is now called Colquhoun's Corridor in honor of retired Executive Director Don Colquhoun.  He retired in December 2011 after 17 years of leading the Agency.  Kellie Spychalski shared that Camp Rainbow was one of Don's favorite places and when the Camp was ruined many years ago due to arson, Don rolled up his sleeves and got everyone to work to ensure Camp would open for the kids that year.  It did - and on time!  The children at Camp Rainbow now have a beautiful entrance to the nature trail as they stroll off looking for creatures with many legs!

The Arc of Orleans County would like to thank everyone that helped to make the Marcy Pavilion and Colquhoun's Corridor a reality.  An extra special thank you goes out to Doc & Donna Mruczek and Don Colquhoun!
